Bells Across the Land 2015

On April 9th, 1865, General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant in Appomattox, Virginia, symbolically ending the Civil War. Next week, exactly 150 years later, bells will ring out across the United States at 3:00 EDT to commemorate the end of this war. The National Park Service is leading the effort in engaging bell ringers from all over, and it looks like it will be a smashing success! Bells will ring in the Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Old North Church in Boston, the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond, the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, among countless other places.

Bells Across the Land 2015Yours truly will be participating in a Chicago-style commemoration “Bells for Peace” organized by Ed Herrmann with members of Articular Facet. We’ll be ringing hand-held bells, gongs, and other metal instruments at the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial in Lincoln Park. All are welcome to come! We’ll be performing group pieces that represent war resolving into peace (Ooh! Fancy!)

They’ll be a report of the event after it occurs, so check back next week.
